Love is Sweet

Here is a new piece that I have been working on.  I used acrylic paint and ink, Inktense pencils, gesso, and a button.  I took a picture outside and I also used my scanner.  I am trying to figure out which method gets better results, although most of the time I won't be able to take outdoor pictures through the winter.

I used pearlescent ink on this painting, so the scanner picked up a lot of the shine and washed it out a bit.
How do you finish up a piece of art that is done on watercolor paper?  I don't quite know what to do with it now.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Janelle - I always get better results with as much natural light as possible, even on dark cloudy days. Pearl and glitter paint is hard to scan! I've had very mixed results. As far as "finishing" your painting, it's done when you say it's done. I tend to mix a little acrylic painting in with my watercolor work. I am watercolor challenged so I rarely just use that as the only medium. The watercolor paper can take just about anything you want to throw at it I think!
Happy arting! Jessi xox

What a pretty piece Janelle! It's a shame because I'm sure neither the photo or scan does your work any justice! Great comparison though, as I've been on the fence as to get a scanner :/ Glad Jessi had some advice for you b/c I'm afraid I've got zero painting knowledge! LOL :D xoxo

Hi Janelle, I always take better pics outdoors. try to use a tripod if you can, to get a sharp image.

I agree - outside is best whenever possible. I've gotten to know what time of day and in what spot in the front of our house looks best for photographing my art, and try then to make that a goal for completion!
It's a beautiful palette and I'll be watching for what you do next, xoxo
